PLASTICS FOR CHANGE IN COLLABORATION WITH GARNIER OPENS UP THEIR FIRST EVER PLASTIC WASTE COLLECTION CENTRE IN CHENNAI, INDIA TO BOOST THE COLLECTION OF OCEAN BOUND PLASTICS FOR THEIR BEAUTY PACKAGING.

Chennai, India, November 22, 2022 : Plastics For Change, world’s largest and most trusted source of fair-trade verified recycled plastic in collaboration with Garnier opens a plastic waste collection centre in Chennai, India to boost the collection of Ocean Bound Plastics (OBP) for Garnier’s beauty packaging.

A social enterprise, Plastics For Change has built an ethical sourcing platform that gives the waste collectors an access to global markets by providing a consistent supply of high quality verified plastics to global brands such as Garnier. 

 As part of Garnier’s Green Beauty campaign, the new unit aims to collect 2000 tonnes of plastic in its first year and also support 2000 people from the local community in Chennai. The plastic collected in this unit will be used to integrate recycled plastics into Garnier’s iconic hair-care Ultra Doux range packaging, in European markets.

Plastics For Change and Garnier have been working together since 2020 to make a positive impact not just for the environment but also for the informal waste collectors by generating a stable income and helping them improve their overall livelihood. Since 2020, Garnier has helped collect the equivalent of 539+ tons of plastic and support more than 3,200 beneficiaries.

The OBP Certification program was established by the NGO Zero Plastics Oceans in collaboration with the certification group Control Union to safeguard oceans from pollution caused due to Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) and to encourage the capture of Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) by giving it an additional value and recognition in the market.
